Priyank Panchal Biography

Priyank Panchal was born on 9 April 1990 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Panchal gives a lot of credit for his success to his family. 

In his interview with the Times of India, he had said that “It was my father’s dream that I would become an India cricketer someday. He had played cricket at the university level. However, he passed away when I was only 15 years old. That’s when both my mother (fashion designer) and sister (interior designer) started working to keep his dream alive. Their sacrifices have helped me become a cricketer.” (1)

He is a big fan of Rahul Dravid, saying, “Whenever I am free, I watch his batting during India’s 2011 tour of England, when he scored three centuries in a series”.

Priyank Panchal’s Cricket Career

Domestic Cricket

On 27 February 2008, he made his List-A debut against Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, playing for Gujarat, where he scored 123 runs in 115 balls with the help of 17 fours and 1 six.

Panchal made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy competition against Saurashtra the following season.

In 2016, Priyank Panchal became the first cricketer from Gujarat to score a triple century at the first-class level as he remained unbeaten on 314 runs. Panchal scored 314 runs in 460 balls in that innings and he also hit 32 fours. (2)

Next month, he became the first player from Gujarat to score 1,000 runs in a single Ranji Trophy season. He scored a total of 1,310 runs in ten matches and seventeen innings in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season. (3)

He was the leading run-scorer for Gujarat in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy with 542 runs in seven matches.

He was the leading run-scorer for Gujarat in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 367 runs in eight matches. Apart from this, he was also the leading run-scorer for Gujarat in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy with 898 runs in nine matches.

In August 2019, he was selected as the captain of the India Red team for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy.

International Cricket Career

In January 2021, he was named as one of the five standby players in India’s Test squad for the series against England but unfortunately did not get a chance to play for the Indian team despite such good domestic performances.
